Budget-Conscious Planning
Hotel
Your hotel stay can often be the biggest part of your education travel expense. BTI has negotiated low hotel rates at the host property so you won’t have to “lose sleep” over your hotel bill. Be sure to book your room at the same time you register for the conference—you must mention that you are with the Annual BTI to maintain the discount rate (see venue page for more details).
Airfare
A little effort goes a long way in keeping your air travel costs low.
- Plan ahead—Make your reservations early. Airlines often offer lower prices on advance purchase or fare sales several months out.
- Consider group sales—If multiple individuals are traveling to the conference, check into group travel deals. Most airlines offer this option and can provide Internet access to allow individuals to make reservations independently.
- Shop online—Do some comparison shopping on various travel and airline Web sites. – visit kayak.com, expedia.com, and more.
- Enlist the help of a professional—Use a travel agent to help find the best deal.
- Be flexible on your travel dates or airport choices if possible—Lower airfares may be available.
Dining
Orlando may be known as a gold mine of fine-dining options; but, with a little thought and planning, you can stretch your per diem.
- Be sure to stop in the exhibit hall for lunch on Thursday and Friday during the conference—it’s free for all registered attendees. Breakfast is available each morning as well for all registered attendees.
- Eat like a local. Explore local cuisine in the area. These options can offer a more economical meal, and a more adventurous and memorable experience.
- Plan ahead by checking out area restaurants online before you leave – visit the Orlando Convention and Visitors’ Bureau Website VisitOrlando.com, TripAdvisor.com or other travel sites for tips on economical dining.
